Financial planner, Medicare educator, and advocate for individuals navigating chronic illness.
Jim Sullivan has been a financial planner for over 35 years. He currently serves as Director of Solving the Financial Puzzle of Chronic Illness, a program of CDC Financial Wellness — an ISO 9001 Accredited nonprofit agency. The program provides financial education and coaching for lower income Medicare beneficiaries and their families struggling with the costs of chronic or terminal illness.
Jim has published over 100 articles and several books on the financial impact of chronic and terminal illness on household financial plans. He has worked directly with individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), Parkinson's disease, and Myotonic Dystrophy.
Of special interest to Jim is serving lower-income individuals diagnosed with chronic or terminal illness — a population he believes is underserved and marginalized by the financial services industry.
Jim is a member of the American Parkinson Disease Association (Illinois Chapter) Board of Directors, where he currently serves as Treasurer. He is also a designated Alzheimer's Association National Community Leader and volunteer community educator, having delivered the seminar Managing Money: A Caregiver's Guide to Managing Finances dozens of times as a webinar and in-person seminar for libraries, businesses, and nonprofit organizations across Illinois.
Jim has held several podcasts on Medicare and the impact of the costs of chronic and terminal illness on the elderly's household budget for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Jim is a CPA (retired) and holds a Master of Accounting Science (MAS) degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He worked at Arthur Andersen for 20 years before founding his own firm in 2002.
